My remote car starter is not working as well as it did. I changed the batteries but the signal is still weak?

The starter was put in in 1998 when I bought my new Durango. It has been working great up until this summer. No matter how new the batteries are in the remote it seems like the signal is getting weaker and weaker. I practically have to be within 50 feet of the vehicle before it will start. That kinds of defeats the purpose. Any ideas. Do remotes wear out? get corroded? Thanks for your ideas. My remote car starter is not working as well as it did. I changed the batteries but the signal is still weak?Assuming that the battery contacts are clean, then the receiver or transmitter may have drifted frequency a little. That would reduce the range of the signal. This may have happened due to aging of the components or maybe being dropped a few times. Dirt may also be a contributing factor. The dirt will change the voltage levels on some of the circuits and again either change the frequency or reduce the RF field.

Good luck with it. It may be time to get another transmitter. My remote car starter is not working as well as it did. I changed the batteries but the signal is still weak?As a temporary measure, hold the remote up to the bottom of your chin for more range...it converts your body into an antenna. Electrical devices do degrade over time...10 years of use may have weakened it. Could be that the remote is going bad and losing signal strength...maybe get a new remote. My remote car starter is not working as well as it did. Do you have a cell phone repair shop or something where you live at?

Almost ALWAYS it needs to be cleaned. The batteries last for a long time, take it somewhere and have it cleaned.

My mom's remote starter went out and it cost us $279 to get a new one from the dealer

We took the old one to Idaho Cellular and Repair, they cleaned it with an airbrush and it worked perfect

We had gone camping a few weeks ago and gotten dust inside
