How do I reset my security system on my 1999 Ford Explorer?

We recently changed the battery on the car. After doing this, the alarm system works, but we cannot start our car unless we push the unlock button on the alarm system right before we start it up. If we do not start it up in under 1 minute, we have to push it again! I think it just needs to be reset. It gets to be a hassle!
