How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?

To open it, i figured out that i had to pull a little lever inside, and then pull a lever on the hood itself while i was opening it.

I tried to just close it but its stuck in that position like it was when i had only pulled the lever on the inside, its loose but its locked at the same time.

anyone know? 07 honda cr-v if that helps. thanks! How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?Open it up again, and then slam the hood down.

The reason your hood is in that limbo state is because you did not shut it hard enough. How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?reopen the hood then go back inside the car and manually push the release lever to assure it is in the closed position then try to close the hood. Let it drop a bit like from 12 inches or so. this should do it.How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?HI

First open it back up and make sure nothing is in the way of it closing.. If there is nothing in the way then go inside the car and make sure the lever in side is all the way back in sometimes they get stuck in the open position.

good luck

timHow do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?just push down firmly on the front and it should latch on the primary latch. be sure to check on the inside release to see that it hs pushed back to its normal postion (un-released) as it may prevent the hood from latching if the release is stuck in the open position.

Someone told me there is a way to reset the computer memory myself but wasn't sure how to. Something about putting it in neutral and pressing the brake, then restart it and put it in drive with foot on the brake. I don't quite understand does anyone know of this procedure so I can try it and not have to take it somewhere and pay to have it done. I have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and changed the battery. Car wants to keep stalling when coming to a stop.?sounds like an alternator problem.

start car, take off battery cable ...if car stops.then alternator is bad

    if running then aint alternator.

dont sound like computer problem, but u can take it to a autozone or such n have them put it on the computer n tell u how to solve ur problem

I have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and changed the battery. Car wants to keep stalling when coming to a stop.?Back then the most common way to reset the ECM was to disconnect the battery so I don檛 think that is your problem. Plus I never heard of such a method. If the car is stalling when it檚 about to stop it could be the fuel filter. Being that you have a 92 you can mark that down as a good possibility. But there is also a couple other things it could be but without knowing much about your car and the maintenance that it had received it would be hard to pin point itI have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and changed the battery. After changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix

Could have simply blown the fuse inside the radio I had the same problem a couple of year ago and run my self ragged trying to figure it out the whole time it was just a damn fuse. After changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fixwell if its straight wired to the battery you might wanta make sure that wire got hooked back up... if not.. check the wire to your radio that has the inline fuse.. may have gotten a power surge when chaning it out and blew that fuse... if that is not the problem, check your actual fuse box... other than that i havnt a clueAfter changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fixIt may be the security device on your radio. Does it ask you for a code? Look at the radio manual for a card that has the code for your radio.

Just be careful if you punch in the wrong code more than 3 or so times you will be locked out of the radio and have to go to the agent to have it unlocked. After changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fixprobably the fuse for the radio is not good anymore u just need to replace it. the fuse box should be somewhere in the interior of the car under the dash or on the sides. the box will have all the fuses and it should say what the fuses are for. look for the one that is for the radio. check it and if u see something unusual just replace it.After changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fixIf the fuse is OK and the radio is not coded, try to disconnect the battery again (turn off the radio before) and wait for a few minutes then reconnect. May be it just needs to be reset. After changing my car battery my CD player in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fixafter changing the battery, usually you need to reset the radio system with the radio code which you can found from the owner's manual or at the back of the radio. reset the system with the code then your CD player should be fine.

But if you use a keep alive circuit when removing the battery, it will retain its memory.

A keep alive circuit is a 12 volt power source hooked to the ground and a 12 volt circuit using clips, or plugged into the cigar lighter that keeps 12 volts applied so the various computers in the vehicle don't lose their memory, things like radio presets, clocks, etc.How to reset clock when battery changed on a car?they make a memory saver that plugs in to the power port in your dash it uses a 9v battery to keep the clock and computer memory from resetting or you can look in the owners Manuel on how to reset the clockHow to reset clock when battery changed on a car?Check your owners manual, but if not I would try pushing and holding the power button till the time flashes, that usually means its ready to be set. Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?

its a blaupunkt its an 96 vw polo aloon i need to know can i get codesCan anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski? There is only two ways to get the code, first check through all the car's manuals that you have for a card with the code number on it. If this is not there then you will need to take the car with your V5 to your local VW garage so they can give you code. They will charge for this around 30.00.

Ja.Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski? The only way to unlock it is either with the code printed on the special card of pay about a fiver and take it to a specialist audio place and they will hook it up to a machine and de code it for you. It is NOT just a case of pressing a few buttons on the set.Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?yes you can pay to have it decoded, but with that year of car get another radio even from a boot fair, though there are cheap new radios about, if your young and you want it as a symbol status try sony but it will cost you!!!Can anyone tell me how to unlock car radio changed battery its aski?Take the radio out; there should be a white sticker on the back, that's the code. Alternatively you can get the code online using the radio serial number.

  • How much is it to get car battery changed (uk)?

hi, i bought a new battery for my car and i was just wondering how much is it to get it fitted on?How much is it to get car battery changed (uk)?It shouldn't cost too much but you should be able to change it yourself or ask a friend to do it for you. It doesn't take long.

Disconnect the negative (-) black wire from the old battery and then disconnect the positive (+) red wire.

Then take the old battery out and put the new one in.

Now connect the positive (+) red wire to the new battery and then the negative (-) black wire.

    That's it - easy!

The only thing you really need to remember when connecting/disconnecting batteries, is to always disconnect the negative first, and connect it last. How much is it to get car battery changed (uk)?you can do it yourself ! just disconnect the battery in there and put in new one and reconnect, why pay someone???????How much is it to get car battery changed (uk)? It's very easy to do yourself, you can find thousands of tutorials on the internet.

Make damn sure you connect correctly in the right order too, if you do give it a go. Because you will only ever get it wrong once. They can, do, kill. Surely you have a neighbour who tinkers with his car. Most guys would be happy to help someone who was unsure. They know it's important to do it the right way. PLUS your car manual probably has a page giving details.

SAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???

I have read it is a security feature, that disables the car radio once the power supply has been tampered with (like in the event of car radio theft) but my radio has not been stolen!!

I have the radio code but can not figure when and how to enter the code so the radio comes back to life.

    SAAB experts...HELP!!

The manual is not clear on how to do this, but mostly suggesting dealership visit - surely not!!SAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???If you have the code available, just enter using the 6 digits for your pre sets, if the code is entered wrong, then hold down the %26quot;Band%26quot; button until it reads %26quot;code in%26quot; again.

You only have three chances to get it right before it locks you out, so if it doesn't take after the second try, you will need to either go to the dealer and have them get you the code or remove the radio and call your local SAAB dealer and give them the serial # an PU # and they can usually give you the code right over the phone as your talking to them.

If you get locked out of the radio, you will need to leave the radio on and the ignition switch to the 1st position for a min. 1 hour. It should then say %26quot;Code In%26quot; again. If it is wrong again, it will lock you out on the first try, and leave it on for another hour.

Sometimes if the radio has been replaced the new code will be on the top of the radio.

Your car should have come with radio pullers in your leather pouch, if not, they are the same as Ford radio pullers that can be had from most auto parts stores.

Best of luck to ya.SAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???Look in the owner's manual leather holder. There should be a plastic card (blue maybe), that has a 4 digit code. Enter the code. And yeah, going to the dealer if one is nearby is a great idea if you have lost the code or never had it.

They most certainly should not charge you for this most necessary and easy for them to discover code.

Every time the power is lost, like your battery disconnect, the same thing will happen. So, when you find the code, copy it in a few places.SAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???I just got 2 pointsSAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???Just ENTER the code on the radio buttons.SAAB 9000 car radio is on the blink since changing the car battery!!!???* Busdrivi is right. The only reason to see the dealer is if you don't have the code. If you do, enter it on the station select buttons (notice no number in the code is greater than the number of station buttons you have - 8 in my case).

    Change a 2002 BMW 540 Car Battery?

I need to change the car battery in my 2002 540.

The battery is easy to locate and get to. Does look heavy though...

I just have a couple questions. Why is there 2 Pos Terminals and what is this vent that I have been reading about and how difficult is it to replace this vent?

Thanks in advanceChange a 2002 BMW 540 Car Battery?the vent is just a hose that vents any moisture out of a hole in your trunk. youll need a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket and ratchet. You only have to loosen the clamps around the terminals.

if the new battery doesnt have a charge, its a bad battery.Change a 2002 BMW 540 Car Battery? The 2 leads send power to the car and to the starter. One has a power cut out so in an accident it will disengage the battery power to the car. Just change it like normal. As for the vent make sure you buy a battery that has the vent on it. Look for a Deka battery. Or CAR-QUEST has them as well. You can get an interstate but you need to ask for the OE type not the universal fit.Change a 2002 BMW 540 Car Battery? Battery will weigh 50 - 80 lbs. Lots of lead.

2 positive terminals for 2 different power leads.

The vent is part of the battery and cannot be replaced. It vents excess hydrogen gas from the battery when charging. Hydrogen is a by-product of the chemical reaction going on inside the battery.

black first then red positive once both are disconnected some battery have a top mounted hold down screw or a bottom pan bolt remove it then remove the battery put in new battery in put holder bolt back in put red positive cable in first then black negative tighten nuts and your done it will take a mechanic

a whole 5 minutes to do if you have to pay more than 20 bucks your getting ripped off and one of the reasons why they want to know the year of your car is the newer it is the more expensive it is the price to replace any part on a car is determined by the year not by how hard it is if the shop tells you that they are lying to you same with other parts like alternators you be surprised an alternator in a 2009 can fit a car built in 1980 there are only 4 types of them the price of a alternator is based on the year the newer the car the more money you pay if you looked up the parts you replace then cross reference to older cars that it fits you will see a major price difference but the same part number don't be taken for a free ride its a trade secret the newer the car the more you pay for parts and labor

so, what you can do, is connect another battery, using jump leads from your friends car, (it doesnt need to be running) undo your terminals, and remove them from teh battery ,the jump leads will make the car think its still got a battery attached... (cars are a bit simple like that) replace teh battery, do up the clamps and remove the jump leads..job a good un. and it doesnt cost anything..

two words of caution; observe polatrity, red (positive) to RED, Black, to black..and it may only be 12volts, but a fresh battery has around 2-300 amps.. so much power, shorted to earth, because your jump leads touch accidentally...big flash, leading to bonfires so be careful. and good luckI need to change my car battery. Do you have to disconnect battery to change car stereo?

I have a honda accord 94, which is pretty old, and i bought a new stereo(because old one broke down).

And as i read through the instruction for the installation,

it told me to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery,

i tried to do it, but the screws are so rusted that i couldn't get it off,

i tried hot water and cola.

To further describe how rusted it is, i could say the screw's end, which is supposed to be octagon(?), lost its shape, part to my struggle to get that thing off.

So...... the introduction was kinda long, i want to know if i could

just go ahead and change the stereo(i will be working with wiring and stuff) without taking the negative terminal outDo you have to disconnect battery to change car stereo?no, you dont have to, it just prevents from blowing a fuse really

but i just install them without doing anythingDo you have to disconnect battery to change car stereo?its better if you disconnect it, but you dont have to

I am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?

i am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or one that contains liquid and needs to get maintenance ?

    of which company ?

How longer should a car battery last ? if car gets nice tune-ups on time ?

thanksI am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?Get maintenance free battery. Interstate batteries are the best, but they also make most of them... Sears, Auto Zone, these are two that I can thank of quickly that Interstate makes and of course the Interstate brand. Battery life has nothing to do with tune-ups, etc. Most if not all have a warranty for so many years, depending on how good of battery you get. Most will only last about that many years.I am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?get what the car calls for/replace in three years and save your alt/dont over run on batt lifeI am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?According too %26quot;Consumer Magazine%26quot;, your local Wal-mart stores, sell

the highest rated batteries in the Industry, and have the best price per

    warranty around.

They wii also install the battery, for free.I am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?Regular maintenance is wonderful and the only maintenance the battery should need is to keep the battery teminals clean and check the liquid level unless it's a maintenance free battery. If you need to replace fluid use distilled water. If the Terminals look like there is a white or green substance on them use household baking soda and water to clean them. It is also best to remove the battery cables from the battery and clean the terminals. Yout local Autzone will carry a stiff brush specifically for this purpose. The best place to purchase a battery is Sam's Club or Wal Mart. They sell a good battery and they a very reasonable. They will even install it for you. All you need to remember is to get a battery in your series with the same cold cranking amps. I have found the folks at Sam's Club to be the most helpful.

Hope this helps you. Have a wonderful day.I am going to change my car' battery. which one should i buy, maintenance free battery (dry battery) or liquid?I never heard of a %26quot;dry%26quot; car battery. Most batteries have liquid or gel electrolyte. A good battery will have a 72, 84 month warranty with direct replacement for 2 to 3 years and pro-rated for the balance. I think Sears' are overpriced and I buy my coffee at Wal Mart. There isn't much difference except in CCA which is cold cranking amps, expressed as 500 CCA, 660 CCA, etc. Any seller should have the rating for your car and recommend the right battery. It is OK to exceed the CCA rating of your car, just do not go below it. Parts houses like NAPA, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc. all sell good batteries and some do installations. Figure on spending at least $80 for a good unit depending on your car. I wish you and your car good Zen.

How do you change the battery on a 03 VW Beetle?

I just came back from deployment to find my battery dead. I've purchased a new battery but I don't know how to change it out. Also is there any other preventative maintenance, other than changing the oil, that I should have done since it wasn't driven much over the last 7 months? How do you change the battery on a 03 VW Beetle?Ok-

First there is a plastic shroud that will need to be popped off the battery. On my 2002 Jetta there are just two tab pieces that get pushed in the middle of each side, then slide up.

Second, you will need a 13mm (I believe thats the right size) socket to remove a bracket that is holding the battery to the front of it. Its securing it to the battery to the battery tray. There is just the bolt and the piece of metal. Once thats loosened, pull that piece out.

Third, you will need to slide off the fuse packet ontop of the battery. Push it back and pull up, it slides right off. There is also the plastic piece it sits on that runs across the battery. There are also tabs on the side that allow it to be loosened to pulled up and out.

Fourth, you'll need a 10mm socket, or wrench to remove the connection to the terminals on the battery. First loosen the negative terminal and pull it off to the side. Make sure its not touching anything metal. Next loosen the positive terminal and pull that up and off. Now you can pull the battery out!! :)

When you reverse procedure to put it back in, make sure you hook up the positive first, then the negative!

As for preventive maintenance you can probably change the oil, as that won't hurt. I recommend using synthetic oil on the car. It will cost more, but you can go 5k miles inbetween oil changes instead of 3k with non-synthetic. Use either Mobil 1 0w-40 or Castrol 5w-40.

Sparkplugs should be fine. I'd check the tires, and check the tire pressure. I'm sure they need it. One more thing to take a look at is the air filter (it sits behind the battery). Make sure the paths leading to it (leads from the headlight area to the air box) isn't abstructed with anything that decided to make a nest in it. And obviously make sure the airfilter isn't dirty. If so, replace it. :)

    Hope this helped!!

How often should I change my car battery?

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry and it's been acting oddly recently. My headlights randomly won't work and the light that indicates the AC is turned on sometimes flashes. How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer?

How could you avoid the computer to be resetted and therefore loose the ability of starting the car after wards since the key has the memory chip in it that would not be acknowledged by the starting system. My neighbor claims I can't be done without causing disturbances to the mention systems but I wanted to see if somebody has done I find ludicrous to tow the car to service center just to get the battery changed. How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer? You did not mention about the model year of your A4. You can replace all A4 battery by yourself without using any special tool and electronic equipment and the car will work fine. There are two things you may need to do after battery replacement. First is the radio, you have to enter the 4 digits radio code to make it work again (note: most newer A4 model will not need this step). Second, you may need to initialize one touch power window (See your owner manual for the instruction).

Just follow the proper procedure for replacing car battery as for most of other car. (Remove ignition key, remove positive then negative, replace battery, install positive then negative)How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer?go and buy one at most parts store and they will replace it there like auto zoneHow to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer? You can use those portable battery chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter. Audi must be different from my car in that respect. I've taken out the battery from my 2008 Explorer to use on another car for a few hours then when I returned it into the Explorer, the only thing that I had to set was the clock on the radio. It even remembered the keypad code on the door.

And the keys has a memory chip in them as well. How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer? If you can locate a cigarette lighter adapter plug, wire it to a 9 volt battery (like the one in your smoke detector at the house). If you feel uncomfortable about wiring one, these are also sold at some parts stores. The 9 vdc battery will keep the charge on the computer while you swap batteries. How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer?most cars have a battery backup. This will give you between 5 and 15 minutes to change the battery. As long as you change out the battery in 5 minutes you will be all right. How to change the battery of an Audi A4 without resetting the computer?A battery could be changed while the car if kept on, but you need to do it fast.

  • When can I turn on my car AC? How do I make the battery not die out?

Okay when can I turn on my AC? Some people told me to wait a while before I can turn on the AC on my car. HOw long do I have to wait?

When is the best time to use the AC. When is it most fuel efficient. I hear the best time is when you are on the freeway.

Also if i'm gonna use some power outlet on that 12V thingy on my car. How do I use it safely so I don't take out all the battery?

    I should use it when the engine is on, and what?When can I turn on my car AC? How do I make the battery not die out?%26quot;Okay when can I turn on my AC? Some people told me to wait a while before I can turn on the AC on my car. HOw long do I have to wait?%26quot;

You can turn it on right away when your car is started. It is something that will hurt your gas mileage some, however. Which brings us to your next question:

    %26quot;When is the best time to use the AC. When is it most fuel efficient. I hear the best time is when you are on the freeway. %26quot;

True. At freeway speeds, it's actually more fuel efficient to have your A/C on than your windows open. This is because with the windows open, you get air going into your car which changes the aero-dynamics and causes more drag. I have heard most estimates be about 40-45 MPH is when it becomes more fuel efficient, but never seen anything to actually back that up. But it does make sense, so I'll go with that guess.

I think the real question here is comfort vs. economy. I can't stand to be in a hot car personally, so I crank up the A/C and let my fuel costs go out the window....or the vent in this case.

    %26quot;Also if i'm gonna use some power outlet on that 12V thingy on my car. How do I use it safely so I don't take out all the battery?%26quot;

Unplug it when you're done driving. The alternator should easily adapt to whatever you plug in to that as you're driving.

MattWhen can I turn on my car AC? How do I make the battery not die out?The engine must be running when all or any electrical items are on, sure you can go about an hour or so with the radio on but only if the battery is in good condition but after that you risk to ruin the battery..

All in all the alternator must be spinning to maintain the battery in tact, besides the A/C won't last long blowing cold because the A/C compressor must be spinning in order to keep-up blowing cold and even so you also need air passing thru the condenser which is provided by the vehicle's speed..

How do you change battery terminals on a Ford Mustang?

My friend's car is a 2000-ish Mustang she has to mess with the battery every time to get her car to start.

Her dad told her the battery terminals need to be changed, but he lives 2 hours away and she has work in the morning.

Is it something I could get my brother to do? Is it difficult?

Can someone give me a step-by-step walk-through on how to do this?

Thank you.How do you change battery terminals on a Ford Mustang? It should be fairly simple depending on how mechanically inclined your brother is. Here is the info:

DIY: How to Change Your Battery

    From About.com

    What you will need:

    1. An adjustable wrench or a socket wrench

    2. New battery

    3. Wire brush or battery terminal cleaner

    4. Clean water

    5. Safety glasses

    6. Rubber gloves (Optional)

    7. Can of Rust-O-Lieum primer

    8. White Lithium Grease

WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AWAY FROM SPARKS OR OPEN FLAMES. DO NOT SMOKE. AND ITS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR.

    *

Disconnect the negative cable first and then disconnect the positive cable.

    *

Remove the battery hold down. It may be along the top of the battery or on the battery tray clamped to the side of the battery.

    *

Once it is free, carefully lift it up and out of the tray.

BATTERY'S CONTAIN SULFURIC ACID AND IT CAN BURN YOUR SKIN. IT IS VERY CORROSIVE TO ANYTHING IT COMES IN CONTACT WITH.

    * Look at the battery tray. If there are signs of rust and corrosion, clean it off with plenty of clear water. Allow the tray to dry and spray it with the primer to prevent further deterioration.

    * Place the new battery in the tray and reinstall the hold down clamp.

    * If you have a top terminal battery, clean the inside of the cables with a battery brush and wire brush the battery posts. If you have a side terminal battery, clean the terminals with the wire brush.

    * Check and make sure there is no corrosion on the battery cables. Clean them as required.

    * Reattach the positive battery cable first and then the negative battery cable. Tighten the tight but on side terminal batteries do not over tighten. You can pull the side post out of the battery if you over tighten them.

    * Give the terminals a good coating of White Lithium Grease to keep them from getting corroded.

    * Start the engine and you're done.

This is a quick and easy job that should take 30 to 45 minutes. How do you change battery terminals on a Ford Mustang? It actually very simple, The terminal only cost around 10 bucks for a pair. You simply disconnect the battery and changed the terminals by removing the nutt that connects the cable to the terminals and adding the new ones. If you cant do it then any mechanic or person with minimal mechanical knowledge can do this. Good luckHow do you change battery terminals on a Ford Mustang?it's a little hard to say without seeing them, but often times the problem is corrosion which you can do something about. carefully remove the negetive cable from the battery, get a can of coke or make a mixture of baking soda and water, (not a paste, just very milky looking). dip the end of the cable in the mixture or the coke and leave it set for 20 minutes-half an hour, dry the end, hook it back up and do the same with the other cable. be careful not to get the mixture on the top of the battery, what you are doing is cleaning the chemical build up by neutralizing the acids, if you get it in the battery it will also neutralize it and you will be buying a new battery. this will only help if the problem is corrosion, you may have bad cables or a bad connection on the other end, and replacing the cable is probably more than you want to do.

How often should I change the battery fluid?

The battery in my car has gone dead. I talked to some coworkers and they asked if I had ever changed the battery fluid. I am kinda new to taking care of my own car. I don't know how often or even how to go about this. I can't find the drain plug they talked about and I don't see and battery fluid on the shelf at the store so I don't know ehre to get it. Any help would be appriciated. How often should I change the battery fluid?Hi. You don't change it!! On your scooter, you can, especially if it were sitting all winter, but your supposed to bring the battery inside for the winter so it doesn't prematurely fail. It is safer and easier to buy an at least 650Cold Cranking Amp battery for your car as this battery will stay strong all winter. Don't change your battery fluid because it is not worth possibly burning your skin if you spill any acid. Great question though. If your car battery fluid is low, you can top it off with water, but again it is really not worth it. Bring it to ant auto parts store for a free test. How often should I change the battery fluid?Time for a little payback. Tell them you called Die Hard, and they told you the fluid didn't need changed, but %26quot;boosted%26quot; Tell them you added some baking soda and now it's fine. In the mean time, buy a new battery. The baking soda neutralizes the acid in the battery and it won't work anymore. i just did an oil change in a honda dealer. my car is hond civic lx 2004. then they told me that my car battery was about 303 CCA and its supposed to be around 400 CCA. so its highly recommended to change it.

    1. does changing the car battery depend on CCA?

    2. how often should you change the car battery?

    3. what will happen if i dont change it?

    4. i bought the 5w-30 oil in walmart. they just used like one and a half bottle. i am so confused because the last time i did it, they used like 3 bottles. can that really happen??

    sorry if my questions are really stupid. i dont really know much about cars, so..How often should you change your car battery and does changing car battery depend on CCA?CCA's are cold cranking amps. Each battery is assigned a certain spec. I am sure with yours at 303, it's getting to the point of where it will most likely need replacement in less than 6 months. When you get a new battery make sure you get the same rating battery if the car is stock. As far as your oil, turn the car off and check the stick for proper level.How often should you change your car battery and does changing car battery depend on CCA?Do you live in a warm climate or cold? A old battery will last longer in a warm climate. About the oil what size where the bottles? Generally, most engines will hold 4 to 5 quarts with a filter change.How often should you change your car battery and does changing car battery depend on CCA?I feel sure that your auto requires at least 3 full quarts of oil for normal operation, and a complete oil change--getting rid of the old oil and replacing it with a new supply of oil--should require at least 3 full quarts of new oil. If a filter change is done at the same time, which it SHOULD be done at every oil change, an additional quart of new oil probably will be required to bring the recommended proper level of oil as shown on the dip stick. If you have a friend who knows how to check the oil level in your engine (stopped and preferably rested for a while) have him or her show you how to do it. If you have had a complete oil change along with a filter change quite recently, the oil on the dip stick should look almost as clear and it did coming out of the new bottles. You HAVE seen what new oil looks like coming right out of the bottle, haven't you? As for the battery question--there are many things to consider, such as;

    1. How old is your battery? Is the original (old as your vehicle-- never been changed)?

    2. Does your alternator appear to be working properly, by the ampmeter showing charging moderately on the (+) side of center when accessories such as air conditioning, headlight and tail lights, windshield wipers, etc. are operating and the engine is operating at a moderate or more speed; and the ampmeter goes to the (-) side center when such accessories are operating and the engine is allowed to drop to idleing?

    3. Checking under the hood, (you need to have someone with you who knows what he/she is looking for and what to do) is there a lot of corrosive build-up around the two terminals on the top of the battery (white %26amp; sometimes blueish crusty dried soda-looking deposits)? If there is, the terminals and the wires' connector clamps need, eventually, to be cleaned thoroughly and sprayed with a protective coating (you can find at Wal-Mart automotive) that will greatly slow down the build-up of such deposits again. But before you do that with the old battery. You and your helper friend find someone (if the friend doesn't happen to have one) a vlot/amp meter that will check D/C voltages %26amp; amperages. Carefully clean the tops of the two posts on the battery and check to see, with the ignition turned off and the engine not running, what the voltage and amperage readings

across the posts (the positive post should have a (+) sign stenciled into its top and also its the one the RED wire is connected to) are for the battery. If the voltage is a good strong 12 volts and the amperage capacity is a good 50 amps., I believe the batter in its present condition is good--BUT--if the battery is one of the sealed type by which it cannot be inspected for the acid/water level in each of the cells, when put to the task of turning the motor over with the starter several times in succession or for extra-long cranking times, such as in cold weather; it might give out completely when you least expect it and it is the MOST INCONVIENT time. If the battery is 3-4 years old and the voltage and amp. capacity look good but you can't examine the water/acid levels in the cells, I think you'd be wise to get a new one soon. But clean off any corrosion you find around the terminals and wire connector clamps and spray with the protective coating--old or new.How often should you change your car battery and does changing car battery depend on CCA?Why the HELL are thay looking at your battery when it was the oil you wanted changed? Sounds like a ruse to sell batteries to me.How often should you change your car battery and does changing car battery depend on CCA?For the oil, check the stick with the engine off, the end of the stick will tell you if it's full of if more oil is needed.

As for the battery, my husband (a mechanic for over 13+ yrs) said that you don't need to change it until the battery goes completely dead. It isn't going to do anything to ur engine. When it finally goes out the engine will shut off and ur windows (or anything electrical) will not turn on until you replace it. That is it.

He also says that that is the dealer trying to get more money off of you. If your battery goes out, go to ur local autozone and they will check the battery for free. If you still have concerns, I would take it to autozone and have it checked for free. They will tell you exactly what it needs by pluging a machine to ur battery. You can either leave it in the car and drive it over there or u can take the battery out of ur car and take the battery to them. They will check it on or out of the car.

    Goodluck :)

How often does one need to change car batteries? That is like asking how often you have to change a light bulb. As often as it fails. If you turn the key and it cranks slowly, or just clicks, you might need to change the battery, assuming the alternator hasn't failed. How often does one need to change car batteries?Car battery should last 5-6 years, but it depends on a lot of factors. And if Mr. Beans Mini failed to start he would probably tie a rope to someone else's car and try to get going that way!How often does one need to change car batteries?Battery health really has very little to do with expiry dates or scheduled replacement. The best preventative maintenance, in my opinion, would be to find a parts house with a good battery tester. A good battery tester electronically checks the overall condition of the cells. I'd get a test done before winter hits, perhaps as part of a winter prep. How often does one need to change car batteries? It's the heat that kills them, but it's the cold that buries 'em.

How hard is it to change a car Battery?

The battery in my car died and I don't want to have it towed somewhere just so someone else can change the battery. Is it relativeley easy enough for me to do in my parking lot?How hard is it to change a car Battery? You can definately do it! You'll need either the correct size socket or an open-ended adjustable wrench. Pliers work in a pinch...

Disconnect the negative battery cable (the black one), then the positive (red one). Just loosen the bolt that holds the cable down against the battery post, then lift the cable up and off.

Lift the battery out (there may be a screw or two holding it down near the bottom), and set the new one in it's place.

While you have the battery out, you may want to take a stiff brush and brush the white/green corrosion off the cable ends.

Make sure you have the new battery facing the same way that the old one was. You don't want the wrong cable on the post!

Then reconnect the battery cables in the reverse order (positive - red first, then negative - black).

If there were any screws near the bottom of the battery, make sure you replace those.

What are the precautions to change a car battery?

    Dear all,

First of all, how long does a car battery last? Is it climate dependent?

Next, I plan to change the battery myself and I want to know if there's any precaution e.g. sequential removal/connecting of battery terminals (like the ones we read when jump starting a dead battery)? What tools do I need? Will a small wrench do?What are the precautions to change a car battery?A regular car battery usually lasts 3-4 years. It's pretty simple to switch out for most vehicles. I would in the very least have a 3/4 ratchet and socket set and a couple of flat head and phillips head screwdrivers.

Beyond however it's mounted in the vehicle there are two posts. Just disconnect the negative and the positive and install the new battery.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION THAT YOU DO NOT TOUCH ONE OF YOUR TOOLS OR ANYTHING METAL TO BOTH THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TERMINAL ON YOUR BATTERY.What are the precautions to change a car battery?Dear Julian C,

Car batteries do not have a specific lifespan, but most last from 2 - 5 years. Yes, climate plays a part in their durability. Extreme heat and cold will shorten their life.

Changing a battery is easy. Make sure to not wear metal objects like watches, rings, etc, to avoid any possible short circuit or electric shock. Remove the negative terminal first with a proper sized wrench (10mm is a good start). Consider wearing gloves for protection from battery acid spills. Inspect each battery cable for splitting cases or other damage and replace if needed. Make sure the new battery is secure in the car and not sitting loose, as any jostling or bumping can damage it. Spray on some battery terminal protectant, or coat the terminal in petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion from forming.

That's it. Keep the battery warranty handy in case you need to submit a claim.

Regards. What are the precautions to change a car battery? If your car is 1996 or newer, the first thing you'll need is a %26quot;setting saver%26quot; so that you don't need to have the radio security code.

    1. Get some latex gloves and eye protection.

    2. Install setting saver.

    3. remove NEGATIVE terminal first. Normally black, but you should be able to follow it to the engine block.

    4. remove POSITIVE, normally red. A big cable should go to the starter.

    5. take the old battery out. watch your fingers.

    6. put new battery in car, fasten the battery hold-down to keep the battery from tipping over and causing a fire.

    7. use wire brush to clean terminals and battery posts.

    8. Install POSITIVE first, tighten terminal so you can't wiggle it.

    9. Install NEGATIVE last, tighten also.

    10. Put some vaseline or grease on the terminals to reduce corrosion.

    11. remove setting saver. Start car.

NOTE: DO NOT ALLOW TOOLS TO TOUCH POSITIVE TERMINAL TO THE CAR, YOU WILL CREATE SPARKS AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE. Eye protection is smart, because under some circumstances, sparks could cause the hydrogen gas generated by a battery to explode. What are the precautions to change a car battery?A couple weeks of real cold weather annually (30-40 below @ night) usually tells you that a good battery will be reliable about 4 years.

Tools may vary. Match tool to the fastener. Always look away before the 2nd final connection to avoid potential explosion getting in your face. What are the precautions to change a car battery?Make sure when you are installing it, you put the hot (red) wire in place before the ground (Black). The opposite applies to removing a battery (black gets disconnected first). Also, when installing or uninstalling, keep track of where the ground wire is, you don't want it to make contact with the frame and arc unintentionally.

You might need a ratchet with a drive adapter to remove the block holding the battery in place. What are the precautions to change a car battery? If you are not sure of your battery condition go to auto supply and they will test it free.

Pay attention---remove NEGATIVE battery terminal FIRST.

Quite often a weak battery condition can be caused by dirty battery terminals.

The life of a battery can depend on many conditions including climate.

How often do I need to change car battery or car tyres?

What %26quot;signs%26quot; do i look for that tells me I might need to change them... apart from having a flat or stalled car of course lol.

p/s: I am a total car maintenance newbieHow often do I need to change car battery or car tyres?AS A GENERAL RULE---

Most car batteries are good for from 3-5 years, depending on the quality and the degree of maintenance.

As for the telltale signs of failure, there aren't many other than the car begins to crank over a little slow. The only other sign is the car won't start in the morning.

There are signs that the mechanic sees, but you won't notice it because you aren't checking it and probably don't have the equipment.

As for tires, those are easier to check.

If you look closely at the tread pattern, at the bottom of the grooves, you will see little raised bars that run across the entire tread. When you can see them clearly, and they are as exposed as the tread, the tires are no longer safe or legal.

These are the 'safety bars' that are cast into the rubber to identify when they have reached a tread depth less than 2/32%26quot;.

You can also tell it is time when you place a penny with Lincoln's head toward the tread. If you can see the top of his head, you have less than 2/32%26quot; remaining.

It is smart to not allow them to get this worn, because this is the absolute minimum tread. It is best to keep at least 4/32%26quot; (1/8%26quot;) tread depth, and then begin to look for sales.

Replace them with the size recommended by the manufacturer, and replace them in matching pairs left to right.

Keep them inflated properly (check the owner's manual or the driver's door post) for longer tire wear and safety, not to mention the fuel economy.

    Hope this clears things up
